Choosing a major can be tough if you don't already know what you want to do in life. Susanne Lewis Ph.D., understands that. She is the director of the chemistry program at Olivet College and an associate professor of chemistry, and her many years of experience as a professor, as well as her own struggles to find the right major for her, make her keenly aware of how difficult choosing a major can be.

Halle Burke, of Warren, won the 2015-16 Global Citizen Honors Program’s (GCHP) full-tuition scholarship through an essay contest and interviews with Olivet College faculty earlier this summer.

An English major, Burke did not expect to win this award. She was overcome with emotions when a phone call full of good news came her way.

Gerald "Whitey" Weaver '52 is an Olivet College alum on his way to Washington, D.C. this October, where he will be honored for his service in WWII. 

Whitey was looking for colleges after serving in WWII as a fighter pilot on a P47 Thunderbolt, and chose Olivet College. He felt unprepared for college after the war, but the GI Bill gave him a chance to attend and he chose Olivet because of it's small size. According to Whitey, the average class size was eight people at the time and he felt a smaller school would help him academically.
